Okay for those of you who do not know about Oatman, here is your history lesson.Oatman was a old mining town in the 1800's. It was a booming town in the middle of the hot, hot dessert. Miners brought their donkeys to carry their wares, and whatever. Well after the mining dried up, they just left the town of Oatman, leaving their sweet donkeys behind. The town is a ghost town now, but you can go see the old hotel, and the saloon (that is where we are sitting with everyone in the picture). It is amazingly perserved, I think because not many tourist visit, because it is truly in the middle of nowhere. The donkeys are all desendents of the original donkeys/mules that were left here abandoned. They just roam the streets and are very friendly. They have a person that takes care that the donkeys are cared for, and the tourists, can feed them carrots. It was a great day. We had been at Laughlin on the Lake Mojave boating around, and we all decided to go to Oatman to visit, I know we were all glad we did. Oh, it was only about 115 degrees that day.
